Land Rover Engines Problems And The Ways To Eliminate Them

Land Rover cars are famous for their powerful engines and high speed capacity, however there is nothing everlasting and even the best mechanisms need service and parts replacement as time goes by. The more higher speed a driver choses the bigger chance there is that some parts might be rubbing off. For instance, old models of Land Rover Defender and Discovery can run efficiently up to 1 million km mileage, new models perform a bit less durable. Moreover, fuel of the low quality may influence engine’s work even within the small distance travelled.

Most common issues

The most common problem is related to the tightness of the connection between module and bushing. Usually, one or several bushings settle down so that makes the gap. As sequence, oil gets to the cooling system/cooling liquids to oil, cylinder head gaskets burn out.

The second common problem is that gas distribution system’s strap wears out. This can be solved by partial or full gas distribution mechanism replacement.

It also happens that petrol pump breaks down. In such a case, it is recommended to replace the Land Rover gasoline pump. It should be noted that over the time, Land Rover engines not only increase oil consumption but there are also problems with gaskets and seals, piston group rubbing off.

Other issues that might occur and the ways to solve them

-          Cylinder piston group

Breakage or coking of piston rings; weakening of the tightness of connection block-sleeve; сarbon deposit on the working surface of the cylinders.

Solution: replacement of head gaskets, piston rings; replacement of working fluids; replacement of the cylinder block; lapping, grinding of elements, flushing.

-          Ignition system

Failure of spark plugs; wiring fault; errors in electronics; generator failure, desynchronization of BCM and ECUwork; incorrect ignition advance.

Solution: replacement of faulty components, elimination of errors in electronics, adjustment.

-          Gas distribution mechanism

Valves and valve cover gasket rubbing off; failure of intake and exhaust manifolds; breakage of levers / rocker arms, rods, pushers; timing belt wear off, tension and bypass rollers; failure of the hydraulic compensator of the gaps.

Solution: replacement of worn out elements.

-          Fuel system

Failure of the gasoline pump, fuel pump; contamination of filters; depressurization of fuel lines; contamination of nozzles.

Solution: ulkhead assembly, replacement of worn-out elements, flushing.

-          Lubrication system

Depressurization; contamination, change in the viscosity of the oil; change in pressure; Malfunction of the oil pump; failure of oil level and pressure sensors; contamination of the filter; sealing elements rubbing off.

Solution: replacement of worn out items, bulkhead assembly.

-          Air intake and crankcase ventilation system

Depressurization and wear of air ducts; failure of the vacuum tank; destruction / weakening of fasteners; contamination of air filters.

Solution: replacement of worn-out elements, broach.

-          Cooling system

Failure of water pump, thermostat; radiator contamination; depressurization of the hydraulic line; failure of the fan cleaning of units.

Solution: replacement of worn parts and assemblies; replacement of the thermostat.

The quality of spare parts does play a role in terms of engine’s further durability and efficiency. In a wide range of options available, it is often hard to find an ideal mixture of product’s characteristics and its value. Providing clients with the opportunity to choose between genuine, OEM and aftermarket parts, Ukarauto online store is a one-stop-shop for finding exactly what you need for your Land Rover or Range Rover of any model and completion.
