The model line of Land Rover includes not only high-cost classy crossovers. The British brand also offers an affordable Freelander. The vehicle is quite big and has many useful functions, despite being less expensive than other models of Land Rover. Restyling of 2011 made this vehicle even more attractive and comfortable. The previous Land Rover Freelander was released on the market in 1997. The car was not as premium as the current crossovers and SUVs of the brand, which allowed the manufacturer to increase sales and attract new customers. The Freelander II, released in 2006, has become more premium, however, in 2014 it was replaced by more expensive Discovery Sport.
At the first glance, the Freelander 2 looks similar to the Range Rover Evoque, but when taking a closer look you see that it is not quite correct. Indeed, designers took the LR-MS platform from Evoque and made it longer. However, unlike many Land Rover models, the Freelander retains the classic configuration of the body with distinct rectangular outlines. The car has different ventilation grates, stylish edging, trim on the back side of the body, Light Atlas and Brunel color elements. The cabin of the car is made from not expensive, but qualitative and durable materials such as artificial leather and eco-plastic.
The motor range of new Land Rover Freelander can not offer a big diversity of powertrain options. The customer can choose between 2-liter gasoline engine performing 240 hp and 2.2 diesel engines performing 150 hp or 190 hp. Each motor goes along with the six-speed automatic gearbox. The driver can choose between front and four-wheel-drive systems. The chassis of the Freelander 2 is equipped with stabilizers of resilience and other useful options. According to the testers’ feedback, acceleration and driving characteristics of the car allows the owner to feel confident in the dense traffic flow of megalopolises as well as on the roads with the rough surface. The off-road performance capabilities of the Freelander 2 are undeniable, which is the main factors that cause its popularity.
There are other reasons why drivers choose Freelander 2. Among those is a great resistance to cold - the diesel engine starts even if the temperature is below 30 degrees Celsius, also the vehicle can warm up very fast when other SUVs require 10-15 minutes for that. Let’s not forget about the Terrain Response system, which has Snow, Mud-Ruts, and Sand modes that optimize the vehicle with different settings. Many experts mention that the Freelander model is less exposed to various malfunctions than even more expensive Land Rovers. However, the problems appear as the mileage grows. For example, when turning 60-80 thousand kilometers (sometimes earlier, sometimes later) you might be hearing the hum which the rear axle produces. Another common issue is the wear of intercooler nozzles. Here you can find more information on what parts of Land Rover Freelander might need to be replaced
The British manufacturer intends to release a relatively affordable successor of Land Rover Freelander in 2021. It is assumed that the new model will receive the name Freelander, although it is possible that the car will have a different name. Except for the price, the new Freelander will surprise users with many advanced features. There is no doubt that the new model will be in high demand among the admirers of active leisure and wild adventures.
